COST DRIVING EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENTS
When we connected with our mining client, they were concerned about ineffective storage disrupting pre-shut and maintenance operations. Staff were slowed down by components and gear not being available when they arrived on site. These essential items needed to be clean, dry and in good condition. However, there were issues and delays due to insufficient and unsecure storage.
CHALLENGES WITH STORING EXTRA EQUIPMENT
Parts and gear weren’t ready due to:
- Equipment being used by other staff
- Gear going missing
- No secure access at unmanned posts
- Difficulty in organising remote drops
- Wear and tear on items
- Rust and water damage
- Gear covered in dust or dirt
This resulted in operational inefficiencies, as well as parts and gear having to be repaired or replaced.
The key driving factor for partnering with DAYWALK was the write-off of a crankshaft. This piece of equipment suffered massive damage during transport TO the workshop, which resulted in the crankshaft being written off. This was due to unsuitable transport measures for the component – and the use of timber pallets.
Losing a component of this magnitude was substantial: with the replacement cost around $200k+. This estimation didn’t include additional considerations surrounding the secondary cost of delays or equipment downtime. The $200k+ was simply the price of a replacement for the badly damaged crankshaft.
PRE-SHUT STORAGE SOLUTION – DAYWALK
Requiring a more efficient solution, particularly for pre-shuts, we recommended a standard storage product that could be quickly mobilised to a drop off point.
The DAYWALK Secure-a-Move storage is designed to be a robust, portable option with easy access for staff. These sheeted steel stillages are fully enclosed, with padlockable doors and a weather resistant construction, so they can be used in warehouses, yards or drop off locations.

Secure-a-Moves can improve the speed and flexibility of shutdown organisation.
The sheeted cages be kept in an accumulation yard, with equipment secured against misuse or theft. Items are protected from the weather, dust, dirt and damage, in a stable and secure storage cage.
Preparations for the shutdown can begin ahead of schedule, with delivered items being placed into the sheeted cage, instead of sitting out in a vulnerable position.

STACKABLE, PORTABLE & FORKLIFT COMPATIBLE
With space at a premium in warehouses and in yards, the Secure-a-Move single level cage offers a stackable model when in use or in storage. They are generally stacked two high but can be stacked four high in some situations.
Due to their sturdy, waterproof design (rubber sealing on door) and engineered long-life coating, they are suitable for drops to multiple points at unmanned posts.
Transportable by forklift or truck, these sheeted boxes can also be filled with an entire pallet of goods, to cuts down the time and risk with manual handling.
