UNFIT STORAGE RACKING
The existing storage system was a stand-alone racking unit, provided to expand the storage capacity without the need for warehouse expansions.
However, this well-used racking posed a range of issues including:
- Showed visible signs of aging and damage
- The storage was not structurally rated
- Design unfit for current storage requirements
To provide value for the client and boost storage capacity in a safe and efficient manner, DAYWALK engineers were tasked with developing a more relevant and rated solution for the gold mining operation.
CUSTOM ENGINEERED STORAGE
Key features to improve operational capabilities and efficiency were front-of-mind when the DAYWALK team began developing the new storage system. These considerations included:
- Durable and rust proof structure for longevity
- Suitable for harsh environments and humid climates
- Safer supply chain solution for easier handling and storage
- Optimal storage with minimal footprint to save floor space
- Reduction in fastening requirements to save money and staff hours
ENGINEERED STORAGE FOR MINING
With DAYWALK’s team of in-house engineers, we created several storage options for our client to review, to ensure that the new racking meet their needs and improved their operational efficiency and optimised their storage capacity — without taking up unnecessary floor space.

Old racking was showing signs of age including rust, damage and general wear and tear.

The old storage system was overdue for an update, as it was no long fit-for-purpose with the operational requirements.

The DAYWALK custom storage offered durable racking with an efficient footprint for space saving.
OUTDOOR RACKING FOR MINING APPLICATIONS
This project resulted in engineered solutions including an 8m long multi-level A-frame racking system with 500mm cantilever beams, a taller and thinner iteration of this system, and a 5m long square frame rack solution with 1200mm beams.
Considering their component storage requirements, usage details and available floor space, the client opted for option A, providing ample storage in a streamlined A-frame design. This improved operations for our mining client, allowing teams to easily and safely access components, storing them securely until the next time they are required.
