For the uninitiated, a pallet collar is simply a wooden packaging solution for compact and bulky products. It is a combination of the usage of metal hinges together with wooden or other custom pallets. It is the solution aside from the traditional wooden box. Unlike wooden boxes, pallet collars can be collapsed when not in use, making them a high-value benefit for storage in warehouses or in transporting goods using heavy transportation.
The Need for Effectiveness
In a warehouse or aboard heavy transportation, there is always the need for both effectiveness coupled with safety as well. The need for efficiency cannot be stressed enough given the different types of products that need to be stored or transported to meet all customer needs. In a highly globalised world, the distribution of different products needs to be speedy but efficient. Given the complexities faced by transport service providers and warehouses, pallet collars offer a small but effective solution rather than attempting to change the conditions of storage and transport.
Literally Thinking Out of the Box
Since storage and transportation are the two main aspects in the process of product distribution, the solution of using wooden pallets was a boon to effectiveness when introduced in the early 20th century. Pallets could either be used as wooden boxes or for stacking. But as manufacturing and products progressed, and trade became highly globalised, the wooden box was becoming a liability. A new solution was needed out of the box.
Pallet Collars
Pallet collars proved to be the best solution for every storage factor as well as for transporting goods by land, sea, or air. Pallet collars consist of heat treated wooden boards held together by metal hinges. Stacking is still possible, but now, the pallet height can be adjusted for different situations of storage or transportation. The best part? When not in use, the collars can be folded or removed so they can be stored away, and with less space usage to boot. Compare that to wooden boxes that need to be stacked high for storage or disassembled using conventional tools that take up much precious time.
Of course, aside from pallet height, the size of the packaging will also matter. This is why the size of pallet collars is also adjustable.
Convenience and Other Uses
Pallet collars are like a dream come true for warehouse managers and transport service providers. The adjustable height and size mean that different products can be stored and transported to the maximum capacity possible. Waste is reduced because less consumable packaging is used. Unlike empty boxes that are just empty air when stored, folded or disassembled pallet collars take up very little space in a warehouse. For other uses, there is also the possibility of using pallet collars as temporary dividers or access doors for unique products.
It is unfortunate that even though pallet collars are now widely used, with over 20,000,000 manufactured annually, there are a large number of companies and entrepreneurs around the world who are still ignorant of pallet collar solutions. One main reason often cited is that traditional wooden boxes cost less than pallet collars. However, the repeated usability of pallet collars through many years easily offsets the cheap cost of traditional wooden boxes that are often used only once.
