A globally renowned industrial gear manufacturer needed a compliant transport method to safely transport a high-precision 12.5T ball mill pinion gear from their workshop to site. Being such a heavy piece of equipment, transporting it without a certified frame was not an option.
However, not only was this gear extremely heavy, it is also made with high precision and protecting the shaft and bearings was of high importance. The solution needed to be long enough to ensure no overhang of the shaft, and needed to provide support to the shaft to protect the bearings during transit.
Daywalk collaborated with the customer to design, engineer, manufacture, and deliver an Australian-made compliant transport system for this time critical project. The resulting solution was a logistics engineered steel pallet with adjustable shaft supports to take pressure off the bearing housing, thus extending the life of the asset. The pallet design included engineered crane lift points and truck lashing points for superior logistical flexibility.
In addition to the transport system, Daywalk were engaged to produce a reusable, zip-up reusable cover for the mill pinion to improve the sustainability of preserving the piece of equipment, and allow for easy inspections.
